Lone Star Studio - Sophie Beckendorf


Sophie Beckendorf is a seventh-generation Texan with Fine Arts and Business degrees and a lifelong love of the Lone Star State woven into everything she makes. As the creative force behind Lone Star Studio, she works across watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and digital art — moving fluidly between mediums to bring each client's vision to life.


From custom logos that give businesses an authentic Texas identity, to bespoke artwork that brings the spirit of the West into your home, Sophie's work is personal by design. No two pieces look the same, because no two clients are the same.

Granddaughter of Well-Known Texas Artist: Charles Beckendorf


"When people ask me where I get my passion for art and Texas, the answer is easy: My grandfather." - Sophie.


Charles Beckendorf, a South Texas native, studied Fine Arts at the University of Texas before working as an illustrator in Los Angeles for Howard Hughes and Walt Disney. He later returned to Texas, creating illustrations for Texas Parks and Wildlife and Lone Star Beer. In the 1960s, his pen-and-ink pointillism prints gained widespread success.

Beckendorf settled in Fredericksburg, opening a gallery in 1971, and completed a massive African Hall mural for the Houston Museum of Natural Science. He also organized a large international art market in Houston.

In the 1980s, he published several books, including Images of Texas, and opened the world’s largest one-artist gallery. He was honored with “Charles Beckendorf Day” in 1986, and his work was displayed in Governor Ann Richards’ office. He continued publishing and was selected for multiple Texas wildlife stamp programs. His artwork has been widely collected, especially by Texans.
